What to Promote to your Readers!

If you have started building your list (which you should be
doing) the next thing you need to have is something to
promote to your list – but not just any product.

The best types of products to sell are ones that:

1. Solves a problem that your readers may have.
2. Your readers will be interested in.
3. Is priced correctly for your potential customers.

A Word Of Caution though…

Be Choosy. Don’t just promote anything!

Remember, these are real, live, thinking, breathing
people. Take some time to research the products you wish to
promote first and see if it’s right for your subscribers.

Consider if this is something you yourself would purchase
and the reasons why. Then relay this to your subscribers.
But do it in your own unique way.

If the particular product comes with a pre-written sales
copy, re-word it with your own style of writing. Offer
your subscribers an incentive for ordering this product
through you that no one else can offer.

Did you know that if you just copy and pasting a solo
advertisement that is pre-written it will lower your sales
rate.

Why?

Because chances are, depending on the subject matter
covered, you aren’t the ONLY one promoting “hot ticket”
items and your subscribers may not just receive your
newsletter or promotional mailings.

And if this is the case, then your subscriber will see
multiple carbon-copy email promotions for the same product
from a dozen different sources. Your emailing included.

Being original counts for a lot.

If you don’t know what your subscribers are having trouble
with, run a survey or poll to find out!

Don’t be afraid to just come right out and ask them. You’d
be surprised how many responses you’ll get.

If you don’t know what your subscribers want, how can you
ever expect to give it to them?

Finally when you are promoting products make sure you
choose products that fall into the right pricing scheme for
your target customers.

If you are sending information on “how to save money”, you
certainly wouldn’t want to promote a $500 product. That
would be contradictory.

5-Step Plan – Writing and Planning Your Content (Part 2)

You have completed the first 4-steps in your plan and
today we are going to discuss the 5th and final part…
creating and writing content for your website (part 2).

In the last lesson we gave you showed you some excellent
examples of how you can create content for your website
using product information and how to weave in related
products to your content.

Today we complete the final part of this process and
summarize your entire step-by-step plan in simple to
understands steps.

Now that you know how you’re creating content for your
site, you know why you chose merchants who have plenty of
products to choose from. And you also know why choosing
products goes hand-in-hand to creating your content.

Essentially, the product information itself relates to
your website content.

Using this technique, and assuming you have chosen
merchants who have plenty of products, you can literally
build niche topic product-based websites with hundreds of
pages.

And because you have used WordPress, and you are using
specific products and their descriptions, you will generate
highly targeted shopping traffic to your site. This is key
to earning a lot of money as an affiliate marketer.

You can make your sites as large or as small as you like
of course, but generally the larger the better. Remember,
at the beginning of these lessons you chose a niche which
is extremely popular, and has very passionate buyers.

Passionate buyers tend to buy many things over and over
again.

Someone who likes to knit for example is not going to stop
with just one ball of yarn or one pattern. They may buy
just one this time, but it’s almost guaranteed that they
will be back to buy more.

So the more you have to offer them, the more often they
are likely to buy through you.

So to recap…

1. Select a great niche that is popular and has very
passionate buyers.

2. Select one or more affiliate networks to sign up with.

3. Browse through the merchants in that network and select
several who have many products available for your niche.

4. Set up your website with WordPress to get a web
presence to provide useful content and to help promote your
products.

5. Create blog posts about your topic and/or your
products. Do this consistently several times each week and
within a few short months you are very likely to start
seeing your affiliate checks growing by leaps and bounds.

Keep in mind that it can happen much faster, or even much
slower. A lot depends on what niche you choose to market
to, and how consistent you are with building your affiliate
website.

It is possible to start making sales within the first few
days and it’s possible to be making a lot of money within
just one to two months.

On average however, it can take about two to three months
to start seeing consistent targeted traffic and sales. And
realistically, it can average about six months before
you’re making a substantial income.

Congratulations. You have now completed your step-by-step
plan. How you use the information you have learned on this
journey is totally up to you.

If you take action and follow the 5-steps outlined in this
plan, you have the potential to generate an enormous online
income.

Best of luck and wishing you success.

Traffic Basics – Summary of Your Optimization Plan!

In the last lesson we talked about some tips for getting
repeat visitors to your website. Today we are going to go
over some easy ways that you can optimize your website to
get more traffic.

One of the most important aspects of having a successful
website is how you are generating traffic. Without traffic
it is impossible to achieve the success that you desire.

Therefore, it’s important to evaluate how you are going to
generate high traffic volume.

If you have been involved in any type of internet business
chances are that you’re aware of how much time, money and
effort that you have to devote to getting traffic to your
website.

Optimizing your website means you have to transform the
content of your site to a much smaller and streamlined form
while maintaining the way you want your website to look.

Optimizing your website can sometimes seem overwhelming,
technical and complicated. But here are some tips to easily
help you get started…

- Know your target visitors.

You need to figure out what search phrases your
potential customers use so they can find your site. Think
of some ideas that your visitors will type about your
website.

- Define a particular niche.

You are certainly going to cover a very broad topic. The
rule of the thumb is to optimize your pages with the best
keywords. Your keyword should be direct enough so your
visitor can immediately find your site.

- Pay close to your title tags.

The title tag is very important since search engines look
for title text when they are going to the index page.

For those who don’t know, a title tag describes a
particular page of your site. They are actually HTML tags
that contains text.

When you use a title tag, make sure that it accurately
describes the content of your page.

For instance, if the content on your page is about how to
cook a spaghetti squash then the title tag should contain
the words “Spaghetti Squash”. Always place your keywords in
the title tag.

This way any topic related to your page will be easier to
find.

- Analyze your keywords.

You can use a good keyword analyzer tool. One of the most
popular is Google’s Keyword Selection Tool at:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

- Always consider your keyword density.

This is one way to optimize your webpage. As a rule of
thumb, keyword phrases should appear at a density rate of
between 3% – 7% in the content on your page. Testing will
determine the optimum density for your pages.

- Place your keyword in your page headline.

When search engines scan your site they rate the text in
your headline. So when you are creating the content for
your site you should always place your main keyword in your
page headline.

These are some very simple ways that you can optimize your
website. If you follow them then you will see your sites
search engine rankings improve steadily over time.

Ok. That’s the basic steps you need to optimize your
website to get additional traffic from the search engines.
As always, you need to test and tweak every change you make
to your site to determine the effectiveness of these
changes.

If you follow what you have learned you will be well on
your way to generating a good flow of free traffic to your
site from the search engines.

How to Easily Create Your Own Product!

Each day a large number of people search for private label
products that are for sale.

What they are looking for is a product that they can
resell to make money and PLR products offer them this
opportunity without having to create it themselves.

In other words, it’s a quick fix to their problems.

And there is no reason why you can’t also capitalize on
the PLR popularity by outsourcing your work to a freelance
writer or developer.

All you have to do is come up with the idea and then
employ someone else to do the hard wor for you, and then
offer the finished product for sale.

But to find the right product, you will first need to do a
little bit of research to find a niche that is popular and
in demand.

Simply reseach what your potential customers are looking
for and then determine whether they would be willing to
pay for this information.

If there is a need and a willingness to pay for the
information you have, then you could create a product that
satisfies their needs.

If you can do this, then you can be well on your way to
generating an income.

You’d be surprised at how many ‘gurus’ have made massive
amounts of profits by coming up with the right ideas and
then getting someone else to create the products for them.

And with a little bit of hard work and determination, you
could find that same success.

5-Step Plan – Writing and Planning Your Content (Part 1)

You have now completed the first 4-steps in your plan and
today we are going to discuss the 5th and final part…
creating and writing content for your website/blog.

Once you have your WordPress site set up and ready, it’s
now time to start creating content for it. And since your
primary goal of this website is to make affiliate sales,
there are certain ways you should create the content for
the site.

There are actually several ways you can do this, and
they’re all quite similar.

You can create content in a personalized end-user way for
example. This means you will simply create blog style
sites, in which you talk about various products you’ve
tried. Alternatively, you can talk about products you want
to buy.

Let’s say for example that you chose knitting as your
niche.

Chances are you chose this market because it is one you
like. So you can simply blog about your own knitting
projects, or those you’d like to try.

First you would look through your merchants and find
different types of cotton yarn.

Then make a post on your blog about a cotton project you’d
like to knit – maybe something like a cotton sweater or
socks – and how you think it would look with these
different types of yarn.

Likewise, you can look through your merchants and find
knitting patterns. Then post to your blog about these
patterns you’ve found that you’d like to try.

Or if the patterns look complicated to you, you could blog
about how you’re not sure if you should try a certain
pattern because it seems a bit complicated.

Let’s use another example: home improvement.

Look through your merchant list, and find some related
products such as kitchen cabinet knobs. Then create a blog
post which either talks about several cabinet knobs you
like, and discuss how you think they may fit in your own
kitchen redesign plans.

Alternatively, create a post that’s just about cute
kitchen cabinet knobs… or porcelain cabinet knobs… or
unique cabinet knobs.

And all you really have to do to create the content for
these types of posts is to copy and paste the product
information from the merchants.

So you don’t really even have to personalize the content
in any way. You can simply start out your post saying
something along the lines of  “I came across a gorgeous
porcelain cabinet knobs today”.

Then copy and paste a few product descriptions and
pictures into your post.

You could go further of course and make suggestions as to
where you think these would work best. Along with the first
product description.

For example, you could put something along the lines of
“these would probably work best in a rustic cabin style
kitchen”.

The second product comments might read something like
“these will go wonderfully in a modern steel kitchen”, etc.

You can use this technique in pretty much any kind of
market.

If you create a website about cooking for example, you
could create posts which suggest different types of woks to
use for Asian cooking.

You can create posts about bread making machines, all in
one mixing stands, and any number of other products.

This technique is actually one of the most powerful ways
to sell tangible affiliate products. Try to help respective
customers by giving them ideas of how to use the product.

When you create a product post which has basic information
about related products, you are creating what’s known as a
comparison style post.

The main difference however, is that you are not trying to
compare these products based on their price. Instead, you
are simply sharing similar products you have found, and
possibly making suggestions for the best ways to use them.

Ok that’s all we have time for today, but in the next (and
final) lesson we will look at some real life websites that
use the above technique with great success – as well as
summarize the entire step-by-step plan.

Traffic Basics – Getting Repeat Visitors!

In the last lesson we talked about some tips for
increasing your website ranking and traffic. Today we’re
going to go over some more tips that you can use to get
repeat visitors to your website.

When people visit your website chances are very likely
that most of them will leave within the first ten seconds,
never to return again.

The worst part about this is they leave without buying
anything. They don’t even take the time to leave you a
name, number or email address, so you have no idea how to
reach them again.

In today’s lesson I’m going to go over some simple tips
that you can use to get people to come back to your website
repeatedly.

Let’s get started:

- Update the pages on your website frequently.

Stagnant sites are dropped by some search engines. You can
even put a date counter on the page to show when it was

last updated.

- Offer additional value on your website.

For affiliates and partners you can place links to their
sites and products and ask them to do the same for you. You
can also advertise their books or videos, if these products
relate to your industry and are not in competition with
your own product.

- Allow visitors to ‘opt in’ to get special offers.

Place a link on your site to invite visitors to ‘opt in’
to get a monthly newsletter, or valuable coupons, or
special discounts, etc.

- Book Mark this site script.

Add a link to your primary page with a script ‘Book Mark
or Add this site to your Favorites’.

- Show this to a friend script.

Add a link ‘Recommend this site to a Friend’ so that the
visitor can email your website link, with a pre written
title, “Thought you might be interested in this”, just by
clicking on it.

- Promote yourself.

Brand your website so that visitors always know they are
on your site. Use consistent colors, logos and slogans and
always provide a ‘Contact Us’ link on each page.

- Create a ‘Our Policies’ page that clearly defines your
philosophy and principles in dealing with your customers.
Also post your privacy policy as well so that clients know
they are secure when they visit your site.

- Add an FAQ page.

Create a FAQ page which addresses most of the doubts and
clarifications about your product or your company that are
likely to be asked. This helps to resolve most of the
customers doubts in their first visit to your site.

- Titles and keywords.

Ensure that each page on your website has appropriate
titles and keywords so that your customer can find their way
back to your site if they lose the book mark.

- Never spam.

Never send a visitor who has opted for your newsletters
with unsolicited emails. And if they decide they want to
‘opt out’ of the mailings, be sure you honor their request
and take them off the mailing list.

One more thing you can do is make your website more
interactive. Make it interesting and fun for them to stick
around.

Let’s take a look at MySpace as an example.

Go to the main page and snoop around. Not only do they
provide a place for people to meet and get to know each
other, they have polls, classifieds, forums, videos and
more. All designed to get you to stick around and come back
again.

Now I’m not saying that you should try to compete with
MySpace, but what you can do is take the time to design
your web pages so that your visitors will want to click
around for a while and get to know you.

The key is to give them something to do and a reason to
come back.

The longer you can keep their attention the more times you
can get them to come back… and the better this is for you
and your business!

Make sure you look for your next lesson were we will be
going over some easy ways that you can optimize your
website to get more traffic.

How to Find Content for Your Blog or Website!

The net is filled with people who know more about any
given topic than you do. While you can’t plagiarize what
they have written, you sure can learn a lot from what they
are saying. If you don’t understand something there will
also be someone willing to help you.

You need to realize though that you cannot be an expert on
everything. There are thousands of people that know more
than you do about a zillion things. So When it’s time to
write some new content on something your are not very
familiar with, start reading blogs, forums and articles on
your topic.

For example, when I’m looking for ideas on content for a
new site, some of the first places I go to are article or
review sites to get a feel for what are the hot topics for
my niche market. I take notes so I can refresh myself on
the topics.

When I am done learning about the topic I sit down and
start writing and take reference notes on any sources that
I can use later. Then in my own words I create original
articles or blog posts based on this information and upload
it to my website.

Another method is to outsource your content by getting it
ceated for you. One of the best places to get exactly what
you want written is in forums. Just ask other members to
give you bids on content about your topic.

You can also go to places like scriptlance.com,
rentacoder.com or elance.com and get 100′s of writers,
programmers and editors bidding on your project.

Just be aware that with any outsourcing you only get what
you pay for. Many low bids could just be stolen work, so
make sure you use www.copyscape.com on anything you buy
before you pay to check to see if it is original or not.

If you’re prepared to do the research, getting original
content for your niche market is not hard so there’s simply
no excuse not to create a number of sites to begin
generating multiple streams of income to secure your future.

5-Step Plan – Setting Up Your Website!

In the last lesson we finalized Step #3 of the plan
so today we move on to Step #4.

Your next step is to set up a website and for this step-by-
step plan we’ll use a WordPress Blog. You can get your free
WorPress Blog at http://wordpress.com

We won’t go into the nitty-gritty details about selecting
a domain name, getting it registered, and setting up
hosting.

We also will not cover installing and configuring
WordPress here. There are many reports, ebooks, and large
manuals which already cover these steps. So we’ll work on
the assumption that you already know how to do these things.

{Note: if you’re new to setting up a blog, we talk more
about this at the end of this chapter}

Why WordPress?

There are many excellent reasons to use WordPress for a
system like this. In fact, there are many excellent reasons
to use WordPress for almost any type of website.

WordPress is extremely easy to install, it has hundreds of
add-ons available which are known as plug-ins that can
automate standard tasks, or simply make most of your tasks
easier.

WordPress is also very search engine friendly when it’s
configured properly. And there are thousands of design
themes available around the web for WordPress.

In addition to all of that, WordPress will automatically
let multiple sites know each time you create new content on
your site.

Essentially it has a built-in self promotion feature. And
this self promotion feature is extremely powerful for
generating traffic, and getting listed in the search engines.

WordPress is also flexible enough to be used for a variety
of types of sites. Many people think that creating a
WordPress site means they will be creating a standard
journal type blog. This is simply not the case.

Depending on the design theme you choose to use, or choose
to make if you have that capability, your site can be
almost anything you want it to be.

It can look like a high-end magazine, it can be used as a
content management system, it can be used as an article
directory, and it can even be made into an online shopping
site. And those are just a few of the ways you can use
WordPress.

As an affiliate marketer, your job is to create as much
targeted traffic to the products you’re promoting as
possible.

And by using WordPress with its built-in self promotion
capabilities, and its built-in search engine optimization,
you can start generating targeted traffic to the affiliate
products you’re promoting much faster.

Creating a website or blog using WordPress has to be one
of the best ways to actually get “something” online.

WordPress is packed with features, easy to install (if you
have the right type of hosting account) and once you’ve
mastered a few basic skills even someone who’s just
starting out can really put together something that they
can be proud of.

But it’s MASTERING those few basic skills that generally
hold people back from ever really doing anything with their
blog. And that’s where things tend to hit a brick wall.

Well as you probably know by now, we love to find
SOLUTIONS to these types of problems and we’re ALWAYS on
the lookout for resources that will help you achieve
success.

We’ve just finished uploading a new set of highly
informative step-by-step videos all relating to mastering
WordPress and you can watch the videos here…

Traffic Basics – Improving Your Search Engine Rankings!

In the last lesson we talked about using key words in your
title tag. Today we’re going to go over some simple rules
that you can follow to help you improve your search engine
ranking and the traffic to your site.

These rules will benefit you regardless of whether you’re
just starting with a new site or if your existing website
is not ranked well for your chosen keywords.

First of all it is important to concentrate on the home
page of your site and then once you learn the following
rules, you will be able to apply them to the other pages of
your site so that you can have multiple high ranking pages.

Let’s go over some of the basic principles to achieving
good rankings in the search engines.

- Create a site with valuable content, products or services.

- Place primary and secondary keywords within the first 25
words in your page content and spread them evenly
throughout the page.

- Research and use the right keywords and phrases to
attract targeted visitors.

- Use your keywords in the right fields and references
within your pages. Like your title tags, meta tags, top
heading and even in the alt tags of images.

- Keep your site design simple so that your customers can
navigate easily between web pages, find what they want and
buy products and services.

- Submit all your web pages and not just your home page to
popular search engines and directories.

- Keep track of changes in search engine algorithms and
accordingly modify your web pages so your search engine
ranking remains high. Use online tools and programs to keep
track of how your website is doing.

- Monitor your competitors and the top ranked websites to
see what they are doing right in the way of design,
navigation, content, keywords, etc.

- Use reports and logs from your web hosting to see where
your traffic is coming from. Analyze your visitor
location and their incoming sources to determine the
keywords they used to find you.

- Give your visitors plenty of ways to remember you, like
newsletters, free reports, rewards, gifts, coupons, etc.

- Exploit your expertise by writing and submitting
articles for your website or products.

Keep these simple rules in mind every time you work on
your existing site or start a new site. If you spend a few
days of preparation up front it will pay off in the long
run with better search engine rankings and traffic.

Well that’s all for today, but make sure you look for your
next issue were we will be talking about some tips you can
use to drive repeat visitors to your website.

Increase Sales With Audio Comments!

Have you ever listened to those short audio clips that are
on many web sites? They often are informative and can spur
people to look more closely at a product or service.

Short audio sessions are not anything new. For decades,
businesses have employed fifteen-second audio sessions to
promote their products while callers were on hold, waiting
to speak with a customer service rep.

Theater owners have employed them to get in a plug for
concessions that are sold in the theater lobby. Who among
us have not heard a short audio session while in the
grocery store or in a discount retail store?

So it is no wonder that they are also working on the
internet as well.

To a degree, a short audio session makes the sales process
via the internet a little more personal, as the prospect
hears a human voice. That alone makes the session an
appealing way to reach a certain part of the populace.

Of course, a successful short audio session is going to be
to the point and informative. It will give the prospect
enough to ensure he or she will progress to the next level
and seriously consider the offering, rather than simply
scanning some text and moving on to another web site.

Settle on the subject for the session, make is crisp,
clear, and easy to understand. Then shut up before you get
too wordy.

5-Step Plan – Selecting the Right Merchants (Part 3)

In the last lesson we continued with Step #3 of the plan
and today we complete the final part of this step.

We finished last lesson talking about name recognition and
today we will disucss payouts, affiliate terms and the

merchants website.

Payout and Other Affiliate Terms or Restrictions:

This is actually a part of the selection process that many
new and seasoned affiliates alike tend to miss. But it can
be one of the most important steps.

You need to read the affiliate agreement specific to each
merchant you are planning to promote because it’s not
uncommon for each merchant to have specific terms and
restrictions attached to their affiliate programs.

For example, some merchants have strong restrictions about
what keywords you’re allowed to use for pay per click
advertising. Some merchants will not allow you to list
their name, their product brand names, or even their
website URL in your advertising.

If you’re creating a product based websites, there are
even merchants who do not allow you to list the product
prices on your website either.

Sometimes there are hidden payout exceptions in merchant
agreements as well. This is unfortunate, but it can happen.

For example, a merchant may say that you will not be paid
commissions on your sales for 60 or 90 days. Or they may
say that you only get paid for their first sale, but
nothing else.

Some will even say in their agreement, that if you make a
sale as an affiliate, but the person who bought the product
through you has already bought products from that merchant
in the past, you are not eligible for the commission.

It’s the small little catches and exceptions like these
that can cause major frustrations and headaches for
affiliate marketers. So being diligent about reading any
merchant agreement and terms specifics is an extremely
important part of your merchant selection process.

The Merchant’s Website:

This is another step in the merchant selection process
which many affiliates don’t think of at first. It’s a very
good idea to get into the habit of actually looking out the
merchant’s website before you sign up for them though.

Some merchants will prominently feature a customer service
phone number, or a toll-free order number, on their
website. And too often if a customer calls that number, the
affiliate is not credited with the sales commissions.

Sometimes a merchant will even put third-party
advertisements on their website. You may find that they are
running Google Adsense for example, or you may see that
they have products listed with affiliate links of their
own. If you send traffic to them and that traffic clicks on
one of their third-party advertisements, you will not earn
money from that.

Even if neither of the above problems are in place, you do
need to get a general feel of their website. Take a brief
look around and figure out whether this is a place you
might feel comfortable shopping at.

Take a look at common things such as their shipping
schedule, and their return policies. We once ordered a
simple two page booklet from a merchant for example, that
took six weeks to come in. Issues like that will increase
sales refunds, and eventually as the word spreads people
will simply not buy anything from that merchant.

Last but not least, navigate their site and see if there
are any errors or problems. Sometimes unfortunately, a
merchant website is simply designed horribly. Or nothing
seems to work. And regardless of the quality of their
products: if their website is not attractive and easy to
use, it will not make sales.

When selecting merchants to promote, we suggest you choose
at least three to work with in the same niche. This will
give you a broader base of products to select from, and you
will still have products to promote if one of your
merchants goes off-line temporarily, or simply closes their
affiliate program.

Traffic Basics – Page Titles!

In the last lesson we talked about tools that you can use
to monitor your website. Today we are going to talk about
using keywords in your page titles.

As we have discussed before, if you want to achieve good
search engine rankings you must use your keywords and
keywords phrases effectively. But did you know that it is
important to use your keyword in the page titles itself?

When you are optimizing your pages keep in mind that the
title tag is different from a Meta tag, but it’s important
to consider it as a part of your SEO strategy.

The text you place in the title tag (between the <title>
and </title> portions) will appear in the title bar of
browsers when visitors view the page.

The actual text you use in the title tag is one of the
most important factors in how a search engine may decide to
rank your web page.

In addition, all major web crawlers will use the text of
your title tag as the text they use for the title of your
page in your listings.

If you have designed your website as a series of websites
or linked pages (and not just a single home page) you must
bear in mind that each page of your website must be search
engine optimized.

The title of each page, ie. the keywords you use on that
page and the phrases you use in the content, will draw
traffic to your site.

The unique combination of these words and phrases and
content will draw customers using different search engine
terms and techniques, so be sure you capture all the
keywords and phrases you need for each product, service or
information page.

The most common mistake made by website owners when they
first design their website is they place their business
name in every title of every page.

Most of your prospective customers will not know the name
of your business until after they have looked at your site
and decided it is worth book marking.

So, while you may want your business name in the title of
the home page, it is probably a waste of valuable keywords
and space to put it in the title line of every page on
your site.

Consider putting keywords in the title so that your page
will display closer to the top of the search engine listing.

Avoiding the stop words such as ‘and’, ‘at’ and the like
in the first three keyword positions in your title is
crucial in search engine optimization.

Another good tip is to keep the title tag less than 64
characters long and do your best to ensure that the title
tag and your meta description are interesting, meaningful,
and relevant to your site.

That’s all for this lesson. In the next lesson we will be
going over some tips for increasing your websites ranking
and traffic.
