Internet marketing productivity can sometimes be a difficult skill to master.  That’s because productivity often implies tasks which are neatly measurable and which produce direct results.  Most internet marketing, however, is all about building relationships and getting your name and website out to the people who might be interested in it, all while unselfishly building value and meeting the needs of your customers.  Such efforts can be very difficult to track.

Here’s an example to help you see the problem.  You’ve decided to take on forum marketing as a way to build back links.  It takes you 20 minutes to find a suitable forum and 5 more minutes to build your profile.  You know you have to be “useful and interesting” when you post to the forum, so you spend another 2 hours looking around the forum to see what’s already been said.  By then, you’ve found perhaps 3 threads you feel confident about speaking to.  You spend 15 minutes composing posts.  Is that productivity, or have you just wasted a lot of time?  After all, 3 back links is not a lot—and you’ve spent almost 3 hours on the task.  No wonder the too-good-to-be-true automated software “spammer” packages turn out to be so tempting!

However, if you’re treating internet marketing as a process then you’ll realize you haven’t done too badly.  Let’s say that forum marketing is pretty much going to be your focus for the time being.  So you’ve created a 3 hour workday if you don’t do anything else for your site.  Now let’s imagine for a moment that you manage to get 3 posts out 5 days a week.  At the end of one month you’ll have 60 posts that are all very good posts.  You don’t look like a spammer because you’ve taken the time to build the relationships and offer the value.  Your 60 posts are suddenly much more meaningful because more people are going to have a lot more reasons to click on the links in your signature bar—you’ve made a name for yourself on that forum, and you’ve built trust that you couldn’t have built by blitzing 60 links in a single day.  At the end of one year you’d have created 720 different places for people to find you.  Given that Google actually indexes forum content fairly quickly and given the content of forum threads does show up in Google search results you will have generated quite a lot of traffic.

“Hitting your stride” on that forum might mean that it takes you only an hour to jump back into the conversations, say what you’ve got to say, and get on with your day.  You have a process that both builds on itself and gets shorter with time.  All this means you spend less time and less money searching for a non-existent “magic bullet” solution capable of generating a whole bunch of traffic for you in a matter of seconds.

Internet marketing productivity gets very easy to measure when it’s placed in these terms.  When you understand your efforts this way you can focus on the relationships without allowing yourself to feel frantic or desperate.  In time this approach will pay off, perhaps by making your site a top ranking authority in its niche.

Everyone today, it seems, wants that elusive dream of working from home and making a living that way. They don’t want to do the commuting in rush hour traffic anymore, nor do they want to live according to someone else’s schedule all the time. They feel if they were working from home, they would be able to do things at their own pace and in their own time.

While this may be true up to a certain point, what you need to understand is that, even with working from home, you will still need to keep to a time table of sorts. Your clients, customers or the company you work for will more than likely have certain deadlines you need to meet. If you are just working “whenever,” it’s going to be a bit difficult to meet those deadlines. Soon, you’ll find yourself right back where you were before you landed a work from home gig.

So before you go jumping through hoops to get a work at home job, look deep within yourself and be honest about some things. The first one you need to consider is whether or not you get distracted easily. This can be a huge problem if you do. Everyone that watches television can get distracted when a favorite show or movie comes on. Would you be keeping your television turned on while you’re working, and would you stop your work to watch something that came on? This is a horrible idea if you distract easily.

The same goes for doing things such as checking your email and social networking accounts constantly. When you check your email and find something that you feel needs attention, or you just want to handle it now, you lose time that needed to have been spent on getting work done. Social networking sites can be fun but they can also be terribly distracting. Before you know it, you’ve spent 3 hours chatting and playing games on your social networking site.

These things cannot go on everyday if you plan to work from home successfully. You MUST be able to focus on work during the time you set aside to do this. Yes, one reason for working at home is to be able to do things on your own time a bit more, but that’s not going to be definitive. There WILL be deadlines of a sort that you’ll need to meet.

It’s better to form a routine that you can comfortably live with so that you can get all of your work related tasks completed. Decide what time of day you want to begin working. Then stick to it unless an emergency arises. Planning and organization is necessary if you want to work from home. It’s all part of the self-discipline that’s needed to make your work from home venture a success.

Once you start your daily routine, things will just fall into place. If you get tempted at any time to fall into a non-disciplined routine, just think about how badly you wanted to work from home to begin with.

So how can I make money with article marketing?

That’s the key question every marketer will ask

I believe that if you are just starting out, promoting affiliate programs is the easiest way to make money online.

The tactic I’m going to introduce here is called Bum Marketing. It involves writing a lot of short, keyword optimized articles promoting some affiliate program. It focuses on volume not quality.

The keyword research is a crucial part of this tactic. You need to find the keywords with traffic but very little competition.  With good keywords you can easily get on page 1 on Google. That’s your goal.

The main benefits of this method is that you can start right away. You can write all the article for free, so there is no cost. You’ll also experience a lot of sales coming very quickly after you’ve written a lot of articles. The momentum will build over time.

Step-by-step action plan:

1. Go to Clickbank.com and select a product with gravity >20 and $ per sale >$30
2. Do keyword research using words that relate to this niche (for example for ebook about natural remedies, you may type herbal remedies, natural cures, natural remedies and so on). Find 10-15 good keywords with >20 searches a day and <10,000 competition with quotes. It may take some time to find these keywords but don’t give up!
3. Write 15 articles (400 words each) and submit them to EzineArticles, Squidoo and Hubpages. Include the affiliate link in the resource box under your article. If ezinearticles requires a custom domain name, but .info domain name (for $1) and redirect it to your affiliate link.
4. Bookmark them using www.socialmarker.com
5. Repeat the process for the next product.

Yes, it’s that simple. The success of this method will depend on your keyword research and product selection. The quality of the article can also drive more clicks.

Bum marketing is all about volume. The more articles you write, the more money you will make. There is no way to know exactly how much money are you going to make but you will definitely generate some traffic.

Bum marketing tips:

• Find the niche that you have some knowledge about. It will be more fun for you.
• Use Yahoo Answer for keyword research. See what people type in questions for your niche.
• Write FAQ articles, answer most common questions that you found on yahoo answers or forums.
• Be consistent. Write and submit new articles every day. The traffic will come, and sales will come. Be persistent!
• Write interesting headlines. Use numbers and words like: secrets, lies, discover, learn, powerful, ground-breaking, guaranteed, free. These are power words that will bring more eyeballs to your articles. Example: “Discover 4 Renegade Tips How To Grow Delicious Tomatoes 50% Faster… Guaranteed”.
• Create 1,2 line persuasive resource box. Use click here as your link. Ask question, make your reader curious. Create desire to click to learn more.
